I am a specialist in conditions of the upper-limb and I have been so since I was appointed a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in 1998. Over the last 26 years I have developed shoulder and elbow surgery as my particular area of expertise.
I look after all conditions affecting the arm whether they be as a result of a sports injury, accident or wear and tear. I frequently work with people of all ages; from the young athlete to the more mature individual.
Furthermore, I have been involved in teaching arthroscopic (key hole) surgery to the next generation of surgeons as well working as an examiner for the orthopaedic trainees' final exam. This, alongside both lecturing and attending national and international conferences, keeps me abreast of the latest surgical techniques and current research.
I generally take the view that surgical intervention is not necessarily the first option to be explored and, backed by an experienced team of physiotherapists, we will always consider both surgical and non-surgical treatments.
